Spring 2009
Quarterly Newsletter

We hope 2009 finds you and you family in good health.

We got a great start on our 3 year road project last year.  We are planning to Chip and Seal about 8 miles of our Township roads this summer.  We have secured Issue 2 money for the reconstruction of Twp. 391 north of US. Rt. 224 to the county line.  We appreciate your continuing patients.  If you have any questions concerning our roads, please contact our road superintendent, Gary Hollingsworth at 419-736-3233.

The Township clean up day will be May 2, 2008.  There will be dumpsters available at the Township Garage.  A trailer will be available at the School for the collection of used tires.  The fee for a normal tire will be $1.00 each and large tires will be $5.00 each.  There will also be a meet and greet at the Fire station.  Please stop by and meet the members and see our Fire vehicles.  Hot dogs will be served from 10 AM to 1 PM.

Please come out and support the Fire and EMS levy on May 5th.  We have let both of our existing levies expire with the hope you will support this new levy.  We have tried to be fiscally responsible while adding new or upgraded vehicles and equipment to our department with the monies we had from our existing levies.  We have purchased a new ambulance and replaced our old grass buggy with a newer model.  We have purchased a second Fire Engine and second Tanker from Litchfield Township.  We have also purchased a First Responders / Incident Command vehicle.  Members of our department have re-conditioned our old ambulance into a Heavy Rescue Fire vehicle. The department applied for and received a total of $23,250.00 in grant money in 2008.  Nearly all of the training of members has been accomplished by the use of grant money.  However, we need your support for this levy.  These vehicles are used to save lives and it takes money to keep them in top working  condition.  We would also like to start the process of finding new land north of the railroad tracks with the possibility of building a new station.  Please help us continue to help the community.

The Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 25th this year with services beginning at 10 AM at the school followed by the parade.  All are invited to attend. Please join us in remembering those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

On December 29th, 2008, the Trustees held a public hearing and adopted our new zoning map and zoning resolution book.  These documents have been recorded and are now in use.  Our Zoning Board is to be commended for all of the hard work and perseverance to accomplish such a daunting task.  If you have any questions about zoning, please contact our zoning inspector, David Speaker at 419-736-2749.  Also, the Ohio General Assembly has passed legislation that expands a Townships authority with regards to the removal of vegetation, garbage, refuse and other debris as well as junk motor vehicles deemed a nuisance.  The amendments were made to Ohio Revised Code 505.85and 505.87 and it added 505.871.  This will aid our Township in cleaning up our nuisance properties.  Please be proactive and lets clean up our Township.

Have a safe an enjoyable spring and summer.
