Sullivan Fire and Rescue

Since the formation of the new department in 2008 we have accomplished several things.  We currently have 17 EMTs who are certified by the State of Ohio, with a total membership of 27, this number has double since 2008.  We currently are running a medic squad and have two members currently in school for medic.  The department’s medical control is through Lodi Hospital, we have a good working relationship with the EMS Coordinator and the Doctor.

We have received a total of $9,000.00 from the State of Ohio EMS for training and equipment.  We have received $2,400.00 from LMRE for equipment in the training room.  We received a donation of $2,200.00 from American Legion in Wellington, Ashland Legion in Ashland and Ashland Eagles for equipment in the training room.  Total amount for EMS was $13,600.00.  Fire also received grants for training and equipment for a total of $9,650.00.  Since 2008 the department has received a total of $23,250.00 in grants and donations.

We were inspected by the State Board of Pharmacy and received an excellent rating for a volunteer department.  The inspector was very impressed on the security and control of the drugs on the squads and at the station.

A new squad was purchased and was paid in cash.  The old squad was turned into a heavy rescue truck.  We would like to thank Steve Shinsky and John Brown for the majority of the work on the truck, along with John Kenny, Max Cox and Keith Rowe.  Materials for this truck were donated by Will-do packaging out of Wellington, Tools for the truck were donated by Home Depot in Ashland, and Ashland Eagles donated the cost for the lettering of the truck.

A new grass buggy was purchased and the old one went to the Township Road Crew.  An engine that was donated by Avon Fire Department was too costly to put in service and was sold.  An engine and tanker were purchased from Litchfield Fire Department for a total of $4,500.00.  The engine is fully operational and is currently in service.  We are waiting for Litchfield to obtain their new tanker and we will take possession of their old one.

Congratulation to Steve Shinsky for being nominated Fire Fighter of the year.  EMT of year will be announced during EMS week in May.

We encourage anyone who wants to know more about the department or is interested in becoming a member to contact a current member.

Jeff Shelton and I would like to thank the community and the Township for allowing us to serve the citizens of the community.

Fire Chief Jeff Shelton and EMS Chief Cindy Benner
